Thanks for the update – really appreciate all the updates. Is a crying shame that we STILL in the whole municipality have no indoor facilities, partly due to a vocal over privileged minority who don’t want to support the younger generation. It is actually impossible to play serious basketball outside. Basketball is the fastest growing sport in Australia and is much accessible to most young people than golf (the participation numbers support this). It is shocking when we travel to other facilities (eg Hills) and see what amazing facilities they have compared with us. Melbourne is another story again. The ubiquity of their incredible facilities puts Sydney to shame. I am not sure what the difference is but I voted you in because I thought you would stand up to overprivileged people of a certain age bracket in favour of the broader interest of the younger and less affluent majority. We have the ability to make Lane Cove a fantastic place to live. There are more than enough gold courses. Please don’t give in!

    Thanks

    Elizabeth

    Hullo Andrew,

Thanks for your update on the next Council meeting. I’m sure the Community will be interested in the business case for the proposed Recreation Precinct at the golf club. I doubt it’s worth the paper it’s printed on in the same way that the telephone survey was totally flawed withe leading questions. From memory the first question was “are you in favour of Women’s Sport” which then led into other questions that steered respondents into supporting the proposal.

On another matter – 266 Longueville Rd. The proposal for Aged Care and Retirement housing on the former site of the Lane Cove Women’s Bowling Club should be halted. The Australian Unity development is opposed by local residents and once again would result in the loss of recreational land and tonight I signed a petition to have the approval with Australian Unity rescinded.

    Thanks for your time,

    Regards

Congratulations on the new role and great move on keeping BCO natural. I for one cannot see the sense in synthetic grass, the whole world does not revolve around children’s sport at the expense of everyone else. Thank you.

    4) NOTICE OF MOTIONNARRIEARRA STATION PURCHASE
Proposal to turn it into a state forest instead of a national park.
Sadly National parks are very restrictive. You cannot hunt, fish, ride trail bikes, the use of 4×4s is limited and camping is also restricted.

    Hi Andrew,

I use the bike path on Epping Road most days to get to Macquarie Park. However its terrible on Bin Mornings. The residents and the garbage collectors leave bins all over the cycle-way, making it an obstacle course for cyclists and often causing congestion as cyclists have to stop and let others pass. It would be great if something could be done to address this (From Lane Cove, through Ryde all the way to Epping). It occurs all the way in the different suburbs.

Also the shared bike path on River Road West is really overgrown and really needs some maintenance.

It also might be worth considering the configuration of the bus stop in front of Greenwich public school. Perhaps moving it off the main road into the alcove on river road adjacent to the school.

River Rd West parking is a danger as vision of on coming traffic is often seriously diminished by parked cars in every available spot between driveways a busy arterial road being reduced to single lane not surprising this city traffic is in gridlock

I definitely want to help these communities. How will the Mayor’s of these communities know who to distribute these funds to? Has consideration been given to the Country Women’s Association which has a programme offering vouchers to those in need to use in their own community or the Rural Aid Drought Relief Programme. The buy a bale programme pays for fodder, water, freight and allows for general donations distributed to those in need. Will this assistance programme be ongoing as the drought has no end date?

This motion to support regional Australia is a worthy one and certainly we in this affluent suburb of Lane Cove can afford it. I am fully supportive of this motion.

Thank you for alerting us to this extra-ordinary meeting.

This sounds very noble, but I have concerns about the flow of cash in this manner – the opportunity for corruption is promoted in this situation. We can all press hand on heart and say “I would never” but some might fail the temptation.

My provisos to the situation would be that only cards that can be used in grocery stores be used, and not Visa or MasterCard debits, and that initially no member of any council be eligible for such a card.

It would not be appropriate for ANY council members to be first in-line for these gifts, and I suggest that council members be last on the list, and the mayor the last of all on the list to ensure equity and fairness to all.

    Dear Andrew

Item 14 on the minutes of the last meeting flagged the possibility of a dementia friendly initiative. I am carer for my husband who has dementia. I am well versed in the needs of dementia sufferers and have regular contact with Dementia Australia. I believe I could contribute to discussions about this initiative. Please feel free to contact me if you think I could be of help.

It’s appalling for Council to duckshove the responsibility for the St Leonards South ‘plan’ on the Government after seven years of shilly-shallying on the issue. Developers took a huge financial risk on buying up homes at overinflated prices, thinking that the Council would simply give a green light to an inappropriate development and totally ignore the views of the community. Even worse is the ‘plan’ creeping back into the Housing section of the Draft Strategic Plan: the residents of the Central and West Wards would be similarly outraged if an extra 4500 were dumped in their area, when the Council will have more than exceeded its targets in the apartment blocks west of the Pacific Highway in St Leonards-Crows nest. The IPP report was most illuminating!
