NSW SHADOW MINISTER FOR SPORT LYNDA VOLTZ MLC COMMUNITY MEETING TO DISCUSS LOCAL SPORTS

-->

NSW Shadow Minister for Sport Lynda Voltz MLC and Labor Candidate for Lane Cove Andrew Zbik met with local residents and representatives of local sporting clubs at the Lane Cove Community Hub on Wednesday, 8th August to talk about what Labor can do to support sport and recreation activities in Lane Cove.

Lynda has a long history of involvement in sports both on and off the field. She is a former chair of NSW Women’s Rugby Union and still coaches girls soccer in the Canterbury district.

Andrew is an active member and past President of the Macquarie University Rowing Club - situated in Tambourine Bay, Riverview.

Andrew understands the frustrations that local clubs face raising money to fund capital works. He understand the challenges they face increasing membership and participation in sport.

Among other issues, the guests of the community meeting discussed

  • The issues surrounding cooperation between local residents and the adequate utilisation of sporting facilities
  • Concerns that there is very little new land available for new sporting grounds
  • The difficulties in finding appropriate funding for improvements to grounds and facilities
  • How to encourage locals with disabilities to get involved in community sport and what improvements may be needed in order to accommodate them

The meeting was valuable and informative to all who attended.

Quotes attributable to Andrew Zbik, Labor Candidate for Lane Cove -

“I have a unique position as a Councillor to act locally and as a State Election Candidate to highlight at a State level what Lane Cove needs to encourage further participation in sport.”
