LABOR RELEASES A RAFT OF POLICIES TO PROTECT THE ENVIRONMENT OF NSW

Labor has unveiled a raft of targeted environmental policies that will protect and enhance the state’s natural environment and repair the damage caused after eight years of neglect by the Liberals and Nationals.

In addition to a 50 per cent Renewable Energy Target by 2030, Labor will seek to ensure the state’s threatened natural parks and waterways are safeguarded for the future.

$35 MILLION BOOST FOR MUSIC SECTOR

A Daley Labor Government will increase public support for the music industry from $4 million to $35 million, providing a boost to musicians, venues, and an industry that generates hundreds of millions of dollars to the NSW economy.

Since the Liberals and Nationals were elected in 2011, NSW has lost hundreds of music venues and thousands of jobs, and we are now losing music festivals as well.

ANTHONY ROBERTS SHORT-CHANGES HIS OWN ELECTORATE

After 20 months of refusing to pay outstanding legal fees owed to Lane Cove Council following a legal fight to stop the forced amalgamation of local Councils, Anthony Roberts and the NSW Liberal Government have short-changed the residents of his own electorate.

Lane Cove Council incurred $382,254 in legal fees to fight off the NSW Liberals unpopular proposal to forcibly amalgamate with Ryde Council and Hunters Hill Council. However, the NSW Liberal Government only identified $320,000 of legal costs and has offered to pay Lane Cove Council $255,000.

LANDCARE NSW TO GROW UNDER A DALEY LABOR GOVERNMENT

Michael Daley and Labor will invest $32.5 million in 3,000 Landcare, Bushcare and Rivercare groups across the length and breadth of NSW.

Labor’s commitment will double current funding and enable the organisation to deploy more front line and regional co-ordinators to assist volunteer groups with on ground works, resourcing, strategy and securing other partnerships.

LABOR WILL SHUT DEVELOPERS’ SPOT REZONING BACKDOOR

Michael Daley and Labor will end the Liberals’ backdoor spot rezoning process for developers which has hijacked the planning system in Sydney.

This will stop developers going to the state government to seek a site-specific amendment to a council’s Local Environmental Plan (LEP) after it has been rejected by a council. LEPs set zoning controls across local council areas, determining what type of development can take place.

SOLAR FOR HALF A MILLION HOMES

A Daley Labor Government will support 500,000 households to install roof top solar over the next 10 years, reducing electricity bills and supporting cheaper, cleaner and greener energy.

Labor’s Solar Homes policy will provide a rebate up to $2,200 for adding solar panels to owner occupied households, where combined household income is under $180,000. On average, households could expect to save up to $600 a year off their electricity bills.

LABOR TO MAKE TAFE COURSES FREE

A Daley Labor Government will make TAFE free for more than 600,000 certificate level places in skill shortage courses over the next decade, starting with child care, disability care, aged care, construction, plumbing, and electrical trades.

Labor’s plan will help people to find jobs in industries that are crying out for more workers, and make TAFE genuinely accessible to all, whether they are school leavers, people re-skilling, or changing careers.

LABOR WILL PUT PEOPLE FIRST IN SYDNEY’S PLANNING FRAMEWORK

NSW Labor Candidate for Lane Cove Andrew Zbik welcomes the announcement by NSW Labor Leader Michael Daley MP and NSW Shadow Minister for Planning Tania Mihailuk MP that a NSW Labor Government would immediately scrap all remaining Planned Precincts. 

The Lane Cove community has had an enormous Planned Precinct forced upon them by the Liberals. The St Leonards and Crows Nest Planned Precinct allow for massive increases in density without any commitment from the Government for additional infrastructure or services to help communities.
